Dr. Paul Garrett received his PhD in Nuclear Physics from McMaster University in 1993. He joined the Atomic Nuclear Physics Group at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, as a post-doctoral researcher before taking another post-doctoral position at the University of Kentucky, USA, in 1994. He worked as a Staff Physicist at the N-Division of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory from 1998 to 2005. In 2004, he joined the Department of Physics at the University of Guelph as an Associate Professor and was promoted to Professor in 2009. His research spans a wide variety of areas in low-energy nuclear physics, including the structure of nuclei, the symmetry roles of protons and neutrons, and nuclear collectivity. His group collaborates internationally and works with facilities such as TRIUMF, Argonne National Laboratory, and universities in Germany and the USA. He has developed significant instrumentation for nuclear physics experiments, including the GRIFFIN spectrometer and a sensitive gamma-ray spectrometer for beta-decay studies. Garrett has received numerous awards and grants for his contributions to the field, including an NSERC Discovery Grant and accolades from the National Nuclear Security Administration.
