Biography

Professor Paul Garrett has made significant contributions to the field of nuclear physics since completing his PhD at McMaster University in 1993. He joined the Atomic Nuclear Physics Group at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, in a post-doctoral position before taking on another post-doctoral role at the University of Kentucky, USA, in 1994. In 1998, he began a staff physicist role at the N-Division of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, which lasted until 2005. Garrett joined the Department of Physics at the University of Guelph in 2004 and was promoted to Professor in 2009. His research encompasses low-energy nuclear physics, exploring the structure of atomic nuclei and the symmetries governing the arrangement of protons and neutrons. He focuses on collective states within nuclei, the stability of nuclear forms, and precision measurements in nuclear decays. His international collaborations involve using several world-class facilities, including TRIUMF, Argonne National Laboratory, and others in Europe. Additionally, Garrett is involved in developing novel instrumentation for nuclear physics, including the GRIFFIN and DESCANT spectrometers. He has received numerous grants and awards for his research, showcasing his standing in the field.
