Dr. Paul Goldberg

Biography

In July 2013, Paul Goldberg became a professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Oxford. He previously served as a professor in Computer Science at the University of Liverpool, where he founded the Economics Computation (ECCO) research group. Goldberg has also taught at the University of Warwick and has been involved with research groups at Aston University and Sandia National Labs in the USA. His work centers around algorithms with mathematically proven performance guarantees. He has extensive experience in computational learning theory, focusing on machine learning algorithms and sample size bounds. His more recent research, which began in 2002, involves algorithmic game theory, particularly the complexity of equilibrium computation and the analysis of best-response and better-response dynamics. Since 2017, he has been exploring computational complexity in regard to total search problems and the complexity class NP, building on his work in Nash equilibrium computation. Goldberg is interested in various topics such as foundational issues in computational learning, large algorithmic game theory, computational economics, optimization, and machine learning.
