Paul Goldstein received his Ph.D. in 1989 from the University of Chicago and has previously held a position in the Department of Anthropology at Dartmouth College. His teaching and research focus on anthropological archaeology, with particular emphasis on complex societies in Latin America, specifically Andean South America. His research involves the study of the Tiwanaku civilization, which is recognized as one of the earliest state-level polities that emerged in the important Lake Titicaca region of the southern Andes and expanded to collapse between ca. 350-1000 AD.
