Biography

J. Paul Goode is the McMillan Chair of Russian Studies at the Institute of European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies at Carleton University. He holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford and has previously served as a Convenor of the Research Group on Nationalism, Populism, and Radicalism at the University of Bath. His research primarily focuses on nationalism and authoritarianism in Russia and Eurasia. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Communist and Post-Communist Studies and is involved with several editorial boards, including Nationalities Papers and Russian Politics, as well as the Social Science Quarterly advisory board. Goode has an extensive academic background with degrees from prestigious institutions like the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Texas-Austin. His current projects include leading research on media dynamics in Russia and studying Russian migrant communities post the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Over the years, Goode has contributed significantly to the field through various publications, addressing topics like the role of propaganda, state surveillance, and the politicization of nationalism.
