Biography

Paul Guyer is the Jonathan Nelson Professor Emeritus in the Department of Philosophy at Brown University, having served from 2012 to 2023. Previously, he was the Florence R.C. Murray Professor Emeritus of Humanities at the University of Pennsylvania, where he taught from 1982 to 2012. He has also held positions at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Illinois-Chicago, as well as visiting positions at prestigious universities such as Michigan, Princeton, and Harvard. Guyer specializes in the philosophy of Immanuel Kant and the history of modern philosophy and aesthetics, with an extensive publication record that includes thirty volumes and over a hundred papers. His teaching encompasses various aspects of philosophy, including aesthetics, early modern philosophy, and Kant's moral philosophy, reflecting his deep expertise and commitment to the field.
