Dr. Paul Haagen

Biography

Paul H. Haagen is a Professor at Duke University School of Law, where he has made significant contributions to the field of law, particularly in contracts and social history of law and sports. He studied at Haverford College, the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, and received his doctorate from Princeton University. After obtaining his J.D. from Yale Law School, he served as a law clerk for the United States Court of Appeals and practiced law in Philadelphia before joining Duke in 1985. Throughout his career, he has been involved in various academic roles, serving as a visiting faculty member at renowned institutions in Germany, Austria, and Mexico. Additionally, Haagen has held leadership positions including Chair of the Academic Council and Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Duke. He co-directs the Center for Sports Law and Policy and has edited several law reviews, enhancing discourse in global public order and legal policy issues.
