Dr. Paul Heerdt

Biography

Paul M. Heerdt is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at Yale University School of Medicine. He earned his MD from the University of Tennessee in 1982 and completed his PhD in cardiovascular pharmacology in 1985. His clinical training included a residency in anesthesiology at Massachusetts General Hospital and a fellowship in cardiothoracic anesthesia at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Dr. Heerdt's academic career began at Washington University, and he later moved to Cornell University in 1992, where he served as a faculty member in both Anesthesiology and Pharmacology and maintained an appointment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. In 2016, he transitioned to Yale University, focusing on clinical and basic science research, particularly in developing collaborative opportunities for residents, fellows, and junior faculty. He actively participates in committees within the Yale School of Medicine and lectures in the pharmacology curriculum for medical students. Dr. Heerdt is a member of the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics.
