Biography

Paul Holloway's research focuses on neurovascular biology and microfluidic engineering, utilizing microfluidic technologies to define cellular microenvironments and gain new insights into the neurovascular unit's role in human neurological disorders. With a PhD from Imperial College London and post-doctoral experience at Louisiana State University, he has pursued training in microfluidic engineering at Princeton University and has worked at the Centre for Hybrid Biodevices at the University of Southampton. In 2017, he joined the Buchan Lab at Oxford, where he received a Royal Commission 1851 Research Fellowship to develop organ chip models that mimic the neurovascular unit. His lab, the Microfluidic Neurological Models (MNM), focuses on creating dynamic, heterotypic cellular models to understand cell death mechanisms in conditions such as stroke and small vessel disease. Holloway is also involved with the Leducq Foundation Circadian Network, introducing circadian rhythms into microfluidic models for studying neurovascular function.
