Dr. Paul Howe

Biography

Paul Howe is a professor and the Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Political Science at the University of New Brunswick. His scholarly work focuses on the areas of political disengagement and democratic participation, with a particular interest in understanding the factors contributing to declining political involvement among younger citizens in Canada. He encourages students to develop independent judgment and engage in critical reflection as part of their education. Howe has published several works addressing the challenges and opportunities within Canadian democracy, critically evaluating the political landscape and advocating for strategies to enhance democratic engagement. His notable publications include 'Citizens Adrift: Democratic Disengagement Young Canadians', which was awarded the Donald Smiley Prize by the Canadian Political Science Association.
