Dr. Paul M. Jenkins is a Pfizer Upjohn Research Professor and an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan Medical School. He serves as the Associate Director of the Heinz C. Prechter Bipolar Research Program. Dr. Jenkins received his Bachelor of Science in General Biology from the University of Michigan in 2001 and his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the same institution in 2010. He completed his postdoctoral training as a fellow at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at Duke University from 2010 to 2015. His research focuses on understanding the cellular and molecular underpinnings of complex psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders that affect a significant number of people worldwide. The etiology of these diseases is poorly understood, and current therapies are generally ineffective. His lab employs a multidisciplinary approach that combines cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, imaging, and electrophysiology to investigate the effects of loss-of-function mutations in ankyrin family scaffolding proteins. Dr. Jenkins has published 48 peer-reviewed papers and has served on multiple national and international grant review panels. He has mentored numerous Ph.D. students and undergraduate researchers during his academic career, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in his field.
