Paul Keenan is an Associate Professor in the Department of International History at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He studied for his undergraduate degree in Modern History and Byzantine Studies at Queen's University of Belfast. He moved to the University of York in 2000, where he undertook a Master's degree in Historical Research at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies (UCL), completing his doctoral thesis and graduating in 2006. His research, which gained support from an Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) studentship, focused on the creation of public spaces for social interaction in early eighteenth-century St Petersburg. Keenan joined LSE in 2004 as a tutorial fellow and became a lecturer in 2008. In early 2013, he was awarded LSE's Major Review Teaching Prizes. His research primarily examines the cultural life of St Petersburg and its role as the seat of the imperial Russian court, particularly how it influenced European fashions and trends and the lives of its populace during Russia's 'Europeanisation' in the early imperial period. Keenan also serves as the Undergraduate Programme Director, Undergraduate Tutor (3rd Year), and Student Survey Coordinator.
