Biography

Dr. Paul Kohl is a Regents' Professor and Institute Fellow at the Georgia Institute of Technology, holding the Thomas L. Gossage Chair. His research interests focus on advanced materials and processes for electronic packaging and interconnects. Notable projects from his group include the development of air-encapsulated porous structures that provide low-capacitance interconnects for microelectromechanical devices, as well as the use of novel materials such as room temperature ionic liquids for high-capacity lithium batteries. He has been involved in researching methanol fuel cells to enhance energy density and solve complex water management issues, with the aim of making fuel cells commercially viable. Dr. Kohl has a B.S. in Chemistry from Bethany College (1974) and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas (1978).
