Paul Low was born and raised in Elizabeth, South Australia, halfway between the state capital Adelaide and the Barossa Valley. He graduated from the University of Adelaide with a B.Sc in Chemistry (Double Major) in 1992, receiving the David Murray Scholarship and the G.M. Badger Prize, followed by a B.Sc (Hons) in 1993, for which he received the Rennie Scholarship. He completed his PhD under Michael Bruce in 1997, studying synthesis reactions of metal complexes bearing carbon-rich ligands. Subsequently, he relocated to Canada as a Visiting Fellow at the Canadian Government Laboratories NRC Steacie Institute for Molecular Sciences. In 1999, he started a Lectureship in Inorganic Chemistry at Durham University, rapidly advancing to Reader in 2006 and becoming Chair in 2010. Low received significant funding and recognition, including an ARC Future Fellowship and an EPSRC Leadership Fellowship. He has extensive research interests in molecular electronics and organometallic chemistry and is highly regarded for his contributions to the field.
