Biography

Dr. Paul T. Pfluger is an Associate Professor at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) School of Medicine. His research is focused on elucidating the molecular mechanisms that regulate the central nervous system's control over energy balance and glucose homeostasis. His recent work investigates the epigenetic control of weight cycling and the complex issue of leptin resistance. Dr. Pfluger earned his Master's degree in Human Environmental Toxicology from the University of Konstanz, Germany, and subsequently graduated with a Biochemistry degree from the German Institute of Human Nutrition at the University of Potsdam, Germany. He continued his academic training as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati. In summer 2009, he started as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio. He returned to Europe in October 2011 to serve as the Associate Director of the Institute of Diabetes and Obesity at Helmholtz Centre Munich, Germany. In April 2015, he became the head of the Research Unit of Neurobiology of Diabetes at Helmholtz Centre Munich, and in July 2019, he was appointed as an Associate Professor at TUM School of Medicine.
