Paul Puschmann is an Assistant Professor of Economical and Social Demographic History at Radboud University. He obtained his research master's degree in history (cum laude) from Radboud University. His research encompasses demographic transitions among rural-to-urban migrants, including the conditions of shantytowns in Casablanca. Paul wrote his PhD thesis at KU Leuven, focusing on the social inclusion and exclusion of migrants in Antwerp, Rotterdam, and Stockholm from a life course perspective, specifically from 1850 to 1930. He held guest researcher positions at Umeå University's Centre for Demographic Ageing Research and the University of Bologna's statistical department, as well as the Berkeley Population Center and the Centre for Demographic Studies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Paul is a co-founder and chief editor of Historical Life Course Studies and served as the research director of the Life Courses, Family Labour Network at the N.W. Posthumus Institute from 2017 to 2024. His current research interests focus on income inequality, partner choice, the healthy migrant effect, and demographic history in the Middle East and North Africa.
