Biography

Paul Salvatore provides strategic labor and employment law advice to companies, boards of directors/trustees, senior executives, and general counsel in the areas of labor-management relations, litigation, alternative dispute resolution, and international labor and employment issues, as well as corporate transactions. Paul negotiates major collective bargaining agreements in various industries, including real estate and construction. He handles arbitrations and litigations and argues appeals concerning labor-management relationships. Notably, Paul argued and won the U.S. Supreme Court case 14 Penn Plaza LLC v. Pyett, a 5-4 decision that has significant implications for employers, as the Court held that a collective bargaining agreement explicitly requires unionized employees to arbitrate employment discrimination claims. He represents universities and colleges in labor and employment relations and is currently active in the areas of graduate student and adjunct faculty union organizing. An honors graduate of Cornell's School of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR) and Cornell Law School, Paul served for eight years on Cornell's Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee. He presently serves as a Trustee Member on the Board of Overseers at Weill Cornell Medicine and on the ILR Dean's Advisory Councils. Prior to that, Paul was elected to the Executive Committee at Proskauer and served as co-chair of the global Labor and Employment Law Department, recognized by American Lawyer and Chambers USA as one of the premier U.S. practices.
