Professor Paul Steinmann graduated with distinction as a Civil Engineer from Hannover University in 1988. After obtaining his doctorate with a focus on localization phenomena in plastomechanics at the Institute of Mechanics, University of Karlsruhe in 1992, he completed his habilitation on modeling and simulation of ductile crystalline materials at Hannover University. Steinmann has served as a Full Professor and as head of the Institute of Applied Mechanics at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, where he also acted as spokesperson for the Department from 2009 to 2011. He previously held a position at the University of Kaiserslautern, contributing significantly to the academic community as (Vice)-Dean. In 2017, he took on the role of Professor of Computational Engineering Science at the University of Glasgow, overseeing the Glasgow Computational Engineering Centre. His research encompasses geometrically non-linear continuum mechanics, computational mechanics, and material modeling, with over 200 publications in international journals, speaking at numerous conferences, and receiving various prestigious awards.
