Dr. Paul Tang

Biography

Paul C. Tang is an Adjunct Professor at the Clinical Excellence Research Center at Stanford University and a practicing internist at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. He serves as Vice President and Chief Health Transformation Officer at IBM Watson Health. With over 25 years of experience in executive roles across health systems, Dr. Tang previously held positions as Vice President and Chief Innovation Technology Officer at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, where he directed the David Druker Center for Health Systems Innovation. He played a significant role in the early adoption of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, and he co-developed MyChart, a commercial patient portal used by Epic. An elected member of the National Academy of Medicine, Dr. Tang has contributed to numerous NAM study committees. He co-chaired the federal Health Information Technology Policy committee from 2009 to 2017 and has served on the boards of several health informatics professional organizations. Dr. Tang has received multiple awards for his contributions to health informatics and holds 16 pending patents. His research has been published in prestigious medical journals, including The New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA.
