Paul Upham is an interdisciplinary environmental social scientist specializing in the social processes involved in energy transitions at individual, organizational, and system levels. He is particularly interested in connecting these levels to provide an integrated understanding of the transitions. His work draws from the literatures of social psychology, especially regarding public objection to energy infrastructure; socio-technical transitions theory; innovation studies; science and technology studies; and human geography. Previously, Paul has served as Chair of Human Behaviour for Sustainable Development at Leuphana University, and he has held positions as a researcher with the Sussex Energy Group at the Science Policy Research Unit at the University of Sussex. He has also worked as a Visiting Professor at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development at the University of Utrecht and at the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE). Additionally, Paul was a Senior Research Fellow at the Sustainability Research Institute at the University of Leeds and with the Tyndall Centre at the Manchester Business School. He is affiliated with the Centre for Integrated Energy Research at the University of Leeds and is listed among the Stanford/Elsevier top 2% cited researchers.
