Biography

Paul Weaver is a Professorial Research Fellow at the International Centre for Integrated Assessment and Sustainable Development (ICIS), Maastricht University. He serves as an Adjunct Professor at LUCSUS, Lund University in Sweden, and as a Special Professor in the School of Geography at the University of Nottingham in the UK. Weaver is a noted economic geographer and sustainability science practitioner, with a specific interest in cross-cutting sectors such as energy, materials, waste, and transport. His work emphasizes integrative methodological approaches, systems analysis, transition analysis, ecological economics, industrial ecology, and sustainability assessment. He has authored and edited several significant publications, including books on Sustainable Technology Development and Eco-Restructuring. Weaver has been a mentor for the Natural Edge Project Team and contributed to the award-winning book Natural Advantage Nations. He received his BA Hons. in Geography from the University of Durham in 1978 and completed his Ph.D. at the Institute of Transport Studies, University of Leeds, in 1984. His previous positions include roles at the University of Leeds, IIASA, INSEAD, and the University of Durham. He has been the principal investigator in various international projects focused on sustainable development. Weaver has also contributed to projects sponsored by DEFRA that emphasize the value of integrated decision-making in environmental policy.
