Dr. Paul Wennberg

Biography

Paul O. Wennberg is the R. Stanton Avery Professor of Atmospheric Chemistry at the California Institute of Technology. His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oberlin College in 1985, followed by a Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1994. He served as an Associate Professor at Caltech from 1998 to 2001 and has held the position of Professor since 2001, becoming the Avery Professor in 2004. He has also played significant administrative roles including Director of the Linde Center from 2008 to 2011 and again from 2014 to 2023, along with serving as Executive Officer from 2012 to 2023. Wennberg's research focuses on laboratory and field studies that investigate the processes controlling photochemistry, dynamics, and radiation in Earth's atmosphere. His work encompasses various facets of atmospheric science such as spectroscopy, kinetics, and the development of aircraft-borne and ground-based instruments for atmospheric analysis. Additionally, his educational courses include detailed discussions on Earth's climate and atmospheric chemistry, with an emphasis on the impacts of climate change and associated technological advancements.
