Paul Gabriele Weston graduated in Literature and later obtained a diploma in Archival Science from the School of Paleography, Diplomatic and Archival Studies at the Vatican Secret Archive, and in Library Science from the Vatican School of Library Science. From 1983 to 2000, he worked at the Vatican Library as the head of the electronic bibliographic system. He contributed to the development of the URBS network, an international organization that includes libraries from ten countries. Since 1985, he has been teaching Bibliographic Cataloging at the Vatican School of Library Science, serving as Deputy Director from 1987 to 2000, and since November 1, 2000, he has been teaching at the University of Pavia. He is involved in several Italian and international study groups focused on the development and management of digital archives and catalogs. He has been a scientific liaison for the digital library project of Italian cultural and literary texts, Biblioteca Italiana. Since 2008, he is the scientific liaison for the libraries and archives of the National Office for Ecclesiastical Cultural Heritage. He is part of the management committee of BEIC and served as scientific director of the digital library. He has coordinated research activities regarding the Digital Library of Lombardy. His research includes organization, functions, and services of digital libraries, bibliographic mediation in the web 3.0 era, and semantic treatment of ancient books.
