Dr. Paul Wilson

Biography

Paul Wilson is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean of Students Enrolment at Carleton University's Faculty of Public Affairs. He began his academic journey in the Riddell Graduate Program in Political Management in 2011 and has over a decade of experience as a senior political advisor for both the government and the opposition. Between 2009 and 2011, he served as the Director of Policy at the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada, where he took on the responsibilities of acting Chief of Staff during the 2011 election campaign. Prior to this role, he worked as Director of Policy for the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada and for the President of Treasury Board and the Minister of Justice from 2006 to 2009. Wilson completed his PhD in early modern English history at Queen's University in 1994. His professional background also includes serving as the Director of Research for the Leader of the Opposition from 1997 to 2001. His research interests encompass political advisors and ministerial staff, core executive studies, the machinery of government, and parliamentary procedure.
