Dr. Paula Barata

Biography

Paula Barata is a Professor and Associate Dean at the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences at the University of Guelph, specializing in Applied Social Psychology. She has extensive experience researching gender-based violence and has worked on evaluating sexual assault resistance education programs. Her research includes community-engaged projects focused on the experiences of survivors of intimate partner violence and homelessness, aiming to collect longitudinal data on their challenges and resilience. Barata has contributed significantly to the literature on feminist psychology, justice issues concerning sexual assault, and the psychological impacts of violence against women. She possesses a strong academic background, having earned her PhD in Applied Social Psychology from the University of Windsor in 2004, her MA in the same field in 1999, and her BA (Honours) in Psychology from the University of British Columbia in 1994. Her numerous publications demonstrate her commitment to advancing the understanding of these critical issues through rigorous academic inquiry.
