Biography

Paula Cunnea is an Advanced Research Fellow at Imperial College London, leading a research group at the Ovarian Cancer Action Research Centre. Her research focuses on investigating tumor heterogeneity in high-grade serous ovarian cancer. She develops ex vivo 3D patient-derived models to study ovarian cancer and applies bioengineering approaches to cancer research. Paula runs multidisciplinary projects centered on chemotherapy resistance and the development of novel therapeutics targeting chemotherapy PARP inhibitor resistance. She joined the Ovarian Cancer Action Research Centre in 2012, initially working on a collaborative FP7 European Union funded project aimed at identifying and characterizing the cell population in ovarian tumors that causes patient relapse. Paula holds a BSc degree in Biomedical Science from Dublin Institute of Technology and Trinity College Dublin, and she achieved her PhD at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden in December 2006. She has previously worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the National University of Ireland Galway and Queen's University Belfast before joining Imperial College.
