Dr. Paula Findlen

Biography

Paula Findlen is the Ubaldo Pierotti Professor of Italian History at Stanford University, where she has been a faculty member since 1999. Her teaching and research focus on the history of science and medicine, particularly in the Renaissance context, analyzing the interplay of culture, politics, and economics during this pivotal period. A seasoned scholar, she has held various academic appointments, including prior roles at the University of California, Davis. Findlen approaches the Renaissance as a historical laboratory for understanding innovative societal possibilities, drawing parallels between Renaissance Italy and contemporary contexts such as Gilded Age America.
