Biography

Paula Gardiner, MD, is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Boston University’s Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, specializing in Family Medicine. With a medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine and a Master of Public Health from Harvard School of Public Health, her academic and research focus lies in patient-oriented research, particularly chronic pain and evidenced-based integrative medicine access for low-income patients. Dr. Gardiner is particularly engaged in studying and teaching clinicians on implementing medical group visits and shared medical appointments. She completed a Clinical Research Fellowship in Complementary and Alternative Medicine at Harvard Medical School and has received notable funding for her research, including a five-year NIH K award grant aimed at exploring the use of complementary alternative medicine to alleviate stress and chronic pain among inner-city medical patients. Currently, she is the primary investigator on a Patient-Centered Outcome Research Institute (PCORI) funded trial that evaluates the effectiveness of Integrative Medicine Group Visits compared to standard primary care for managing chronic pain. Additionally, her work includes developing innovative technologies such as Embodied Conversational Agents and holistic online toolkits. Dr. Gardiner is a certified meditation and mindful self-compassion teacher and has lectured nationally and internationally, contributing over 90 publications in her field.
