Biography

Dr. Lago is an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Concordia University in Canada. Her research focuses on Pervasive Computing for Health and Healthy Aging. She is a member of the PERFORM Center engAGE, studying methods to understand and measure health status outcomes through cost-effective ecological approaches using wearables and sensors in home environments, augmented with machine learning. Dr. Lago obtained her Doctorate of Engineering from Universidad de Los Andes, Colombia, and holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Software Engineering. Her research interests include human activity recognition, wearable sensors, and machine learning applied to sensor data. Before her current position, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Kyushu Institute of Technology from 2018 to 2020, where she focused on using wearable sensor-based activity recognition to optimize workflows in nursing homes. Her work has involved investigating the use of data collected in lab settings for real-life applications, particularly in health monitoring and prediction.
