Biography

Paule McNicoll is an Associate Professor Emerita at the University of British Columbia's School of Social Work. She received her B.A. in Philosophy from Collège des Jésuites in Québec City and holds a BSW from Université Laval, an MSW from the University of British Columbia, and a Ph.D. from the University of Washington. With over 15 years of experience as a professional social worker in medical, psychiatric, and educational community settings, McNicoll played a pivotal role in founding the Multicultural Family Centre in East Vancouver in the early 1990s. Her teaching expertise encompasses research methodology, group work, health and mental health, and diversity issues. During her tenure at UBC, she supervised over 100 graduate students and served as Graduate Chair while actively participating on numerous committees. McNicoll's research interests focus on health and mental health, disability, cultural diversity, group work, and participatory action research. She has published extensively, including co-authoring works that investigate the social history of the eastern Arctic, and has been an active member of editorial boards for publications in social work and community mental health journals.
