Biography

Paulina Johnson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Alberta. She is a member of the Nipisihkopahk, Samson Cree Nation, and identifies as Four-Spirit/Plains Cree. Her research interests focus on Indigenous research methods, decolonization, Indigenization, Indigenous feminism, anti-racism, colonialism, and systemic injustices faced by Indigenous womxn in settler colonial societies. Johnson is dedicated to blending Indigenous and Western knowledge systems through her work as Co-Research Director of Braiding Knowledges Canada (BKC) and manages the Blue Sky Research Lab. She emphasizes the importance of Indigenous pedagogies in her teaching, aiming to create a classroom environment that reflects her Nehiyaw upbringing and lived experiences. She actively shares narratives that explore Indigenous methodologies and the experiences of Indigenous communities in her work.
