Biography

Professor Paulina Kewes is a Tutorial Fellow at Jesus College, University of Oxford, specializing in English Literature. She obtained her DPhil from Jesus College, Oxford in 1996 and has developed an academic career with a focus on Early Modern drama, historiography, political thought, and the classical tradition, particularly in relation to Shakespeare. Kewes served as a Junior Research Fellow at University College, Oxford from 1995 to 1997, and as a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth from 1997 to 2003. In 2003, she returned to Jesus College as a Tutorial Fellow. Her research interests include the political and religious dynamics of early modern literature, and she currently holds a Leverhulme Trust Major Research Fellowship for a project exploring the contentious royal succession during the reigns of Henry VIII’s children. Kewes is also a co-investigator for the AHRC-funded Stuart Successions Project, which aims to extend the scholarship surrounding succession literature in England. Beyond her research, she is actively involved in teaching and supervising graduate students interested in early modern literature, often focusing on works with a strong intellectual history component. Kewes is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and has contributed to editorial boards for various academic journals.
