Biography

Pauline Mackay is a Professor of Robert Burns Studies and Cultural Heritage at the University of Glasgow, specializing in Scottish Literature. She directs the Queen's Anniversary Prize-winning Centre for Robert Burns Studies and co-directs the Realities Immersion Glasgow project, which focuses on immersive research, teaching, and innovation. She is currently working on editing Robert Burns’s poetry and correspondence and is writing a monograph titled 'Burns’s Bawdy Song Verse.' Her recent publication is 'Burns Day Year' (2021; 2nd edition forthcoming in 2025). Pauline's interdisciplinary research includes expertise in Scottish Literature, Cultural Memory, and Immersive Technologies. She developed a Virtual Reality experience titled 'Burns Reality' and received the English Association Fellows Award in 2023. Furthermore, she is a Co-Investigator on a £6.2m project to develop a Museums Metaverse platform. Pauline is actively engaged with public talks and has featured in various UK media including BBC Radio 4 and BBC1. Her research interests encompass Scottish Literature from the 15th to the 21st Century, focusing on Robert Burns and themes of cultural heritage and digital humanities.
