Biography

Pavithra Vasudevan is an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin, specializing in Women's and Gender Studies as well as African and African Diaspora Studies. She earned her Ph.D. in Geography from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 2018. Vasudevan’s research focuses on feminist geography and the examination of structural oppression through the lens of racialized communities. Her work emphasizes the importance of community organizing and collective knowledge production. She is currently developing a book manuscript titled 'Exposing Aluminum: Death, Desire, Racial Capitalism', which critically engages with Black feminist and decolonial theory. Additionally, Vasudevan has contributed to journals such as Antipode and Environment and Planning D, and has co-edited special issues addressing race and biopolitics. Prior to her academic career, she was a professional dancer in New York City, where she also developed educational programs for youth.
