Biography

Pavlos Avlamis is a Lecturer in the Department of Classics at King's College London. He completed his degree in Classics at the National University of Athens in Greece and underwent postgraduate studies at the University of Virginia (MA) and Princeton University (PhD). He moved to the UK in 2010 and taught at St John's College, Oxford. In 2014, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher on an AHRC-funded project titled ‘Greek Epic in the Roman Empire: Cultural History’ based in Cambridge and held a Junior Research Fellowship at Trinity College, Oxford. He joined the Department of Classics at King's College London in 2015. His research interests include Hellenistic and Imperial Greek literature, ancient popular culture, and ancient wisdom traditions, particularly fables. Currently, he focuses on the cultural functions of Greek poetry in the Hellenistic period and Late Antiquity, and representation of everyday life in Imperial Greek literature. Avlamis also supervises PhD students in these areas and has engaged in public outreach, including a discussion on Radio 4 regarding Aesop.
