Dr. Pavlos Vlachos

Biography

Pavlos Vlachos is a St. Vincent Health Professor in Healthcare Engineering and the Director of the Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering at Purdue University. He specializes in measurement science and instrumentation, with significant contributions to particle image velocimetry, uncertainty quantification in multi-phase flows, and biomedical applications. His research extends to fluid dynamics in biological systems, including biofluid mechanics and the development of cardiovascular devices aimed at addressing heart failure and diastolic dysfunction. Vlachos has a strong academic background with a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, and both a Master’s and Ph.D. in Engineering Science from Virginia Tech. He is recognized for his outstanding papers in various journals and has received numerous awards including the ASME Global Congress Outstanding Paper Award, the Dean's Award for Excellence in Research at Virginia Tech, and the Moody Award for outstanding technical papers in fluids engineering. As an influential figure in both academic and professional domains, he has collaborated on innovative research aimed at solving complex engineering challenges. Vladchos is also engaged in educating the next generation of engineers through his teaching in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University.
