Professor Dr. Pavlos Vlachos

Biography

Pavlos Vlachos is the St. Vincent Health Professor of Healthcare Engineering and Director of the Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering at Purdue University. He has a diverse background in Mechanical Engineering, having obtained his diploma from the National Technical University of Athens in Greece, and both his M.S. and Ph.D. in Engineering Science Mechanics from Virginia Tech. His research interests lie in measurement science instrumentation, particle image velocimetry, uncertainty quantification, multi-phase flows, flow-induced vibrations, hydro-kinetic energy, biological flows, biofluid mechanics, and biomedical devices. He has published numerous papers focusing on topics such as shear stress-mediated angiogenesis and fluid mechanics, which have earned him several awards, including the Outstanding Paper Award from the Journal of Measurement Science and Technology. Dr. Vlachos has been recognized for his contributions to engineering and has held various prestigious positions, including the Robert E. Hord Professor and John R. Jones Faculty Fellow at Virginia Tech. His expertise bridges multiple domains, contributing significantly to the application areas of engineering and medicine, particularly in the development of cardiovascular devices. Dr. Vlachos is actively involved in advancing the field of biomedical engineering through his innovative research and leadership at Purdue.
