Biography

Pawan Sinha is a Professor in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received his undergraduate degree in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, and both his Master's and Doctoral degrees from the Department of Computer Science at MIT. His research primarily focuses on understanding how the human brain learns to recognize objects through visual experience, particularly using a combination of experimental and computational modeling techniques. His lab also explores issues related to neurological disorders, including autism, and is known for the Project Prakash initiative, which aims to provide treatment for children with disabilities while enhancing the understanding of learning mechanisms and brain plasticity. Pawan has served on program committees for significant scientific conferences and is part of the editorial board of ACM's Journal on Applied Perception. He has received several prestigious awards including the Pisart Vision Award and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Fellowship. His teaching accolades include the Dean’s Award for Advising and Teaching at MIT.
