Biography

Pei Zhou is the James B. Duke Distinguished Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at Duke University. His research focuses on elucidating the structure and dynamics of protein–protein and protein–ligand interactions and their functions in various cellular processes. Current projects in his lab concentrate on enzymes and protein complexes involved in bacterial membrane biosynthesis, translesion DNA synthesis, co-transcriptional regulation, and host-pathogen interactions. His investigations into critical cellular machineries have led to the development of novel antibiotics and cancer therapeutics, as well as new biotechnological applications. The Zhou lab employs a range of biochemical and biophysical techniques, including NMR, X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, and enzymology. The lab has been instrumental in the development and application of innovative NMR technologies, particularly in high-resolution, high-dimensional spectral reconstruction techniques. Zhou received his Ph.D. from Harvard University and completed his postdoctoral fellowship in Biological Chemistry at Harvard, contributing significantly to the understanding of various molecular mechanisms in biochemistry.
