Biography

Penelope Laycock is a lecturer in Urban Studies and Social Policy at the University of Glasgow. She has an undergraduate degree in Biological Anthropology from the University of Kent and a Master's degree in Medical Anthropology from University College London. Penelope completed her PhD at the University of Strathclyde, focusing on social policy issues related to adult children of problem drinkers and the associated risks for problematic substance use. During her PhD, she tutored modules in Social Policy at the University of Strathclyde. Before pursuing her PhD, Penelope worked as a Clinical Studies Officer at the NHS North East London Foundation Trust, where she was involved in research projects primarily addressing mental health issues. Her research interests include health inequalities, substance use, and the social policy impacts on health, with a particular focus on structural inequalities within urban environments.
