Biography

Penelope (Poppy) Lockwood completed her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and History at Western University, followed by a Master’s degree in English Literature at Queen’s University. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Social Psychology at the University of Waterloo under the supervision of Ziva Kunda. Her research primarily focuses on the responses of individuals to social comparisons, specifically examining the effects of comparing oneself to better-off or worse-off individuals. This research looks at how people are motivated by positive role models who have achieved great success, as well as negative role models whom individuals perceive as failures in various domains. Lockwood's work also explores comparisons in the context of close relationships, particularly in relationships with romantic partners.
