Dr. Peng Khaw

Biography

Professor Sir Peng T. Khaw is a leading expert in Glaucoma Studies and Wound Healing, serving as a Professor at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, UK. He is the Founder Director of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) specialist Biomedical Research Centre for Ophthalmology. With a focus on refining surgical techniques and developing novel treatments to enhance efficacy and safety in glaucoma surgery, Sir Peng has a significant interest in both adult and pediatric patients. His research group pioneered the Moorfields Safer Surgery System and continually innovates with microdevices and anti-scarring systems. He contributed to major initiatives such as the UK's largest eye biobank and collaborated with Google DeepMind in advancing retinal AI algorithms. Over his career, Sir Peng has published over 600 papers and received numerous awards, including 12 international prizes. He was elected to the UK Academy of Medical Sciences in 2002 and was knighted in 2013 for his contributions to ophthalmology.
