Prof. Yu’s research focuses on the genetic basis of environmental regulation, root system formation, functioning, biotic interactions, and the soil microbiome in plants, particularly their adaptive behavior, rhizosphere functions, crop evolution, and domestication. His team aims to develop a theoretical framework to incorporate beneficial root-microbe interactions for sustainable crop production and resilience, ultimately seeking to understand and manipulate crop genetics to enhance the One Health system. Prof. Yu completed his PhD in Plant Nutrition at China Agricultural University in 2016. He conducted research from 2013 to 2015 and was a postdoc from 2016 to 2020 in Crop Functional Genomics at the University of Bonn. In 2021, he was supported by the Emmy Noether program of the German Research Foundation to head an independent research group at the Institute of Crop Science and Resource Conservation (INRES) at the University of Bonn. In October 2024, Prof. Yu was appointed to a professorship in Plant Genetics at the Technical University of Munich, School of Life Sciences.
