Dr. Peng Zhang

Biography

Peng Zhang is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University and serves as a Principal Investigator at the Ocean State Research Institute affiliated with the Providence VA Medical Center. His research focuses on understanding the signaling pathways involved in cardiovascular remodeling and the cellular mechanisms underlying regulatory responses to hemodynamic stress. Dr. Zhang's work aims to advance therapeutic strategies targeting cardiopulmonary diseases, particularly through studies on mitochondrial function and bioenergetics. His laboratory utilizes a range of techniques, including gene manipulation and high-resolution imaging, to delineate the mechanisms contributing to pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and right ventricular dysfunction. Funded by multiple organizations, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the American Heart Association, his research seeks to identify novel therapeutic targets that could lead to improved outcomes for patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases. In addition to his primary research, Dr. Zhang is actively involved in teaching and mentoring students and fellows in the field.
