Biography

Per Stenberg works as an Associate Professor at Umeå University in Sweden. His research focuses on ecosystem dynamics and the impact of climate change and environmental threats, including invasive species and emerging pathogens. Stenberg pioneers new methodologies in ecosystem science using high-throughput sequencing and environmental DNA (eDNA) to analyze historical ecosystems and monitor biological threats in real-time. His groundbreaking work includes studying a 60-year archive of air filters sampled weekly in six locations across Sweden, leading to unprecedented insights into biodiversity and ecological baselines. Stenberg's research has revealed significant declines in forest biodiversity due to land-use changes, and he is currently working to forecast the impacts of climate change on ecosystems.
