Biography

Professor Periklis Petropoulos graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Patras. He received an MSc degree in Communications Engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology and a PhD in Optical Telecommunications from the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC), University of Southampton. He is currently the Deputy Director of the ORC and works as a Professor in Optical Communications. His research interests include optical communications, all-optical signal processing, and novel fibre waveguide technologies. He is the investigator on research projects worth over £33M funded by various sources including the EU, EPSRC, and industry. Professor Petropoulos was the Programme Manager for the multi-million-pound EPSRC Programme Grants for Photonic Hyperhighway (2010-2016) and Airguide Photonics (2016-present). He is a founding member of the Management Board of the UK’s National Dark Fibre Facility (NDFF), which is a dedicated research network. His research has produced over 570 publications in technical journals and conference proceedings. He has supervised 17 PhD students and serves as the Editor-in-Chief for IET Optoelectronics, actively contributing to international conferences in the field.
