Biography

Perin Westerhof Nyman is a part-time academic in the Fountain School of Performing Arts at Dalhousie University. With a background as a dress historian, Perin specializes in researching historical garments and their significance in societal contexts. Perin's doctoral work focused on the use of livery mourning forms and political performative dress during the late medieval and early Renaissance periods in Scotland, emphasizing visual reconstruction aspects in costume history. Perin is passionate about examining developments in the cut and construction of clothing and how clothing has shaped body identity from the early medieval period to the early twentieth century. Perin has experience as an educator and has worked in the museum heritage sector, teaching at the undergraduate level. Perin has authored publications in notable journals, contributing significant research to the field of dress and identity in historical contexts.
