Dr. Peristera Paschou

Biography

Dr. Paschou is the Head of the Department of Biological Sciences at Purdue University, where she also serves as the Director of Global Partnerships for the Purdue College of Science. She has made significant contributions to the field of genetics, particularly focusing on complex disorders such as psychiatric and neurodevelopmental conditions. Since earning her PhD from the National University of Athens in Greece, she has conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford and Yale University, honing her expertise in Clinical Molecular Genetics. Furthermore, Dr. Paschou's leadership extended to establishing international collaborative networks aimed at identifying genetic underpinnings of neurodevelopmental diseases, including her role as Co-Chair of the ENIGMA-Tourette Syndrome Working Group. Throughout her career, she has received numerous accolades for her research excellence, including the Showalter Faculty Scholar recognition in 2019. Her interdisciplinary approach merges data science and genomics, striving to elucidate the genetic architecture of neurological disorders, particularly Tourette syndrome.
