Dr. Pernille Sørensen

Biography

Pernille Lajer Sørensen is a PhD student in Rikke Nielsen's group at Aarhus University, specializing in the research of molecular mechanisms underlying inherited retinal diseases, particularly those affecting vitamin metabolism in the visual cycle. Her work utilizes a range of methodologies including imaging, spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, and mouse models to investigate molecular interactions critical for retinal health. She aims to identify therapeutic targets that can contribute to new treatments for vision loss associated with retinal degeneration. Her job responsibilities include conducting laboratory experiments, biochemical assays, microscopy, and animal studies, as well as analyzing experimental data and collaborating with team members to support academic activities and supervision of students. Her areas of expertise encompass Retinal Biology, Degeneration, Vitamin Metabolism, Animal Models, Histology, Imaging, and Omics Data Analysis.
