Biography

Pero G. Dagbovie is a University Distinguished Professor in the Department of History at Michigan State University, where he also serves as Vice Provost for Graduate Postdoctoral Studies and Dean of the Graduate School. His scholarship focuses on African American History, Twentieth-Century U.S. History, Intellectual History, and Philosophy History. He has authored seven books and numerous articles and essays, and he is the editor of the Journal of African American History, a leading scholarly journal in the field. Dagbovie has delivered keynote presentations both nationally and internationally and is active on the editorial boards of several scholarly journals including the Michigan Historical Review and the Journal of Black Studies. As a public historian, he has served as a scholar consultant for various projects, such as the permanent exhibit “And Rise” at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit. He is currently the lead historian consultant for the restoration of the Carter G. Woodson Home, a National Historic Site in Washington, D.C. Dagbovie has also contributed to the development of history and social studies curriculum for public school systems in Michigan and has mentored numerous undergraduate and graduate students throughout his career.
